It's Ma-a-a-a-arch!

On Other M
Okay, so I've mentioned Other M before in pictures in the gallery here, and I'm pretty sure ya' guys get the gist of it by now. Other M is a Sonic the Hedgehog Internet fan-comic, based on video game and the Archie-verse continuity. Spanning over 30 issues, Other M was completely written by ~ianpotto several years ago, and drawn by a legion of Sonic fan-artists. It’s a dark, gritty parallel world – friends have become foes, foes friends. And Sonic is thrown into the shoes of his cowardly alternate-universe self. Only this is OUR Sonic – and in much the same way that the world’s been turned upside down on him, he’s about to turn his new friends’ world on its head as he steps up to the plate to bring down the empire of the Guardian and his Legion of Justice.

I could gush at length about Other M, ‘cause I love it just that darn much.


But yadda-yadda, Other M isn’t the point of this picture. Because it’s March. And if you are a Sonic the Hedgehog fan in the least – or a comic book fan that loves to see what young, talented creators can really accomplish when they ooze nothing but passion for their characters – you have just ONE comic book to buy this month:

It’s the (very) long awaited debut of (who wrote Other M all those years ago) as a – no, THE writer of Archie’s Sonic the Hedgehog. It’s also the debut of cult-favorite Sonic game characters Bean and Bark. And also the StH debut of on pencils, moving over from Sonic X last month.

And I know, I know. Comic book readers look down on Sonic the Hedgehog. And I know even most Sonic fans turn their noses to Archie’s vision of the cannon. But Sonic has survived over a decade – done what no other video game or ANY licensed comic book could ever do – and now’s the time to give it a chance. Drop down the $2.25 for a copy, show some props to a book that’s done what it’s done and some support for the new guys and what’s they’re gonna’ do. And get set to become a Sonic comic fan.

On The Picture
A 17x11 inch beast, this was done over 14 hours, spread out through the week. Each character was drawn on their own separate layer – often with detail or body that would ultimately be totally cropped out, in the end – to give me more control over the composition (since group pics can tend to get messy). I played around with diff ideas, but ultimately decided to just throw all the characters together, no solid distinctions between each aside from the colors themselves, for what I hoped would be a high-energy color explosion. ^^ The Other M logo is provided by *aha-mccoy.
