At Anime Boston last month, I got an on-the-spot commission for Samus from Metroid... The thing is, though, I'm not a huge Metroid man - the last time I played was Super Metroid on the SNES.

So I don't really know the armor all that well and - what's more - she strikes me as the sort of character design like Iron Man - no definitive design, just little bits and pieces and variations of them that are consistent. (Green arm cannon, red-orange color scheme, helmut, BIG shoulders.)

Anyway, I crouched behing *gts's table and drew up sketches based on Samus pics Googled on his laptop... After getting back, decided I kinda' wanted to tackle the bounty-hunter again for ol' times' sake. Hope ya' dig!

4H Pencil, Paper-Mate felt-tips, and Photoshop 7.

the last Metroid game you played was her best(IMO).
Try playing her newer games, no not the Prime games, but Zero mission and Fusion :D
anyways, looks great, now draw her without her suit :P

I agree with your Metroid take--even though I love it, Samus armor is highly modifiable and this looks close enough! Your metroids though, without Samus there, would not read as metroids to me. There's always some sort of mysterious goo floating around inside (you've got that part), but the most typical "iconic" metroids seem to have three round "organs" in the middle of their sac-like bodies. That's the only thing I'd change (Samus' right hip is a little wonky but I think that's a style issue :))

BTW, I saw some of your art at a booth at Sakuracon! It's neat to see it all biggified on paper instead of the screen.
