Sonic 235 - Pg 2 by herms85 Sonic 235 - Pg 2 by herms85
Just wanted to share some of my favorite interior pages. These are from Sonic the Hedgehog #235, published by Archie Comics.

This is totally my favorite issue from last year. Sonic's an action adventure book, and it's pretty rare that the pace slows down as much as it did in this ish. Without having to worry about big action sequences, I got to just focus on environments and atmospheres. And there's alotta' both in this issue. We check in with the happenings of many different characters in this story, and I did my best to set each apart in the color schemes chosen.

In this page, we're with Silver and one of the Echidna Guardians inside a dusty old library.

Depends on the detail. Most pages usually take about 2.5 hours to 3, and covers take about 4 to 5... but I've had some real beasts to color before... An upcoming two page spread in Sonic issue 250 took close to 16 hours to complete!

I really agree that in quieter issues like this one it gives your colouring more of a chance to flourish. This page certainly looks great. :3

Adobe Photoshop. Specifically, I use an older version from around 2004 - Photoshop 7.

Lovely coloring atmosphere; a nice quiet graytone blue to really give the 'old and untouched place' feel without making it too tomb-like ^^

Finally someone made that joke about Silver's hair in an official issue!

Great work as always Herms!

I'm kind of curious. Did you teach yourself colouring or take classes!? I love it when you colour for the comics. T_T

Thanks!

Largely self-taught. I took a couple classes back in high school that introduced me to Photoshop - but it had little to do with coloring. After that it was all playing around with the program, coloring my own art, and reading online tutorials or books. (A great one: The DC Comics Guide to Coloring and Lettering Comics.) Getting feedback from my peers and editors also helped.
