Page 1 (of 4) of a redraw of Sonic the Hedgehog #146's "The Good, the Bad, and the Unknown" story. Redrawing from another artist's visual material isn't at all like drawing from a script, but this was just practice and layout portfolio.

Drawn before the "Songoose" pages, actually. Whereas the other set of samples focused on life-at-rest for the comics' heroes, these were 100% action and ass-kicking. The first couple of pages were entirely silent, too - no world-balloons, no sound effects, just lots and lots of space for fighting! And without having to worry about any of that stuff, that made the montage-layout significantly easier, as opposed to the crazy-hard it usually is.

Besides, Sonic and Shadow are super-speedsters, so I figured this layout worked best for a fight between them. They can't be confined to boxes! They're all over the page! Planning it was a bit hard, since there were some actual "pauses" during the fighting. When I originally laid this out, I actually did keep those moments in-box, but that screwed over the focus on this so bad, I just tossed out any panels whatsoever.

Of course, in the end, there isn’t much focus, anyway. Which was kinda’ the idea. It’s hard to see if ya’ only just glance at it – it works better in colors, as it would be meant to be. But the motion starts up-top and immediately goes into a 1-2-1-2, back and forth zig-zag down the page. My aim was to make the flow of this page’s layout itself entirely a back-and-forth punching match. ^^
